Our Commitment to the Environment  

It is our policy to promote a positive and caring contribution to the environment and to be committed to protecting the environment at all levels of our business activities.

This is best achieved by making it our responsibility to undertake environmental improvements by monitoring and complying with all relevant environmental legislation and being guided by the principles of ISO14001.

As a consequence of this, the management is committed to continuous improvements in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution.  The Jangro Board is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of this environmental policy.

We appreciate that real progress on environmental issues can only be made through the actions of individuals and organisations, and we will ensure that all staff are trained in our environmental management policy and given guidance in its implementation.  

Jangro (Leicester) Ltd have adopted a positive policy to promote the practical day-to-day commitment to the environment in the way we work, the materials and equipment we purchase, use, and dispose of.

Some of the measures we take are:

• We have carbon calculators to help our clients choose the best products based on environmental performance and assessments.

• To ensure that Jangro (Leicester) Ltd gives full support to group environmental policy by providing support and training to its employees to ensure they understand and contribute to ongoing improvements. 

• To identify environmental aspects and impacts, then set environmental targets and objectives, and constantly improve our management programme to ensure these objectives are met.

• To monitor the effects and issues arising from our company’s environmental objectives measurably and including our existing manufacturing arrangements, assessing the significance of such arrangements.

• Ensuring that our suppliers are committed to environmental improvements and where necessary comparing alternative supplies in respect of their environmental performance. This is done via head office supplier assessments and scope 3 reporting for our carbon score.

• Recycling packaging materials (wherever possible) or providing a returnable system to our customers and reusing the raw materials where recycled (wherever possible).  We will consider the environmental impact on any purchases.

• We offer clients a return, reuse and recycle policy on the boxes we deliver our goods in. These can be returned for us to reuse in our warehouse or recycle. We also offer clients a circular economy to recycle broken buckets and floor signs into new recyclable buckets and recyclable signs. We can also recycle old paper towels.

• To use and maintain vehicles which achieve reduced CO2 emissions and fuel economy. All drivers will follow the company’s “Eco Driving Tips” as defined in our Drivers’ Handbook. We are monitoring vehicle technology and switching to electric or hybrid where possible/practical. All delivery routes are planned to have the least impact on the environment.

• To ensure that our chemicals are, where possible, fully biodegradable and under COSHH show full ecological information on biodegradability, toxicity, effect on effluent treatment, distribution and mobility. We have a NTRL range of Eco-friendly chemicals and paper that we promote to our clients. NTRL chemicals are made from plant derivatives and are vegan-friendly. Our NTRL paper is made from reclaimed cardboard diverted from landfill. Both paper and chemicals are made in the UK.

• To encourage employees to use “green transport”, for example, providing facilities for cyclists, encouraging car sharing and the use of public transport by providing information on local routes.

• To organise our work routines so that we minimise the use of energy at all times. In the office environment, paper will be used sensibly, with measures to re-use and recycle waste paper, and the increased use of electronic communication to reduce the need for paper use. The paper we use is FSC approved.

• To reduce waste production and carry out recycling as much as possible. Plastic waste is bound, and bales are sent for recycling.

• To dispose of all waste in a responsible manner, ensuring that we always comply with the Duty of Care regulations. Any services used for the storage or disposal of waste will be checked to ensure that appropriate licences are held. Waste is separated, and the office and warehouse are provided with recycling bins.

• Identify environmental aspects and impacts, then set environmental targets and objectives, and constantly improve our management program to ensure these objectives are met.

• We are Planet Mark accredited and as such have committed to reducing our carbon output by 5% year on year.  

• To reduce the energy and water consumption of the business and minimise CO2 emissions. We will invest in the improved energy efficiency of products we use and investigate environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources. Our electricity is now 100% renewable. We have a policy to switch off appliances each night and turn down thermostats to reduce consumption. Water is also on flush restrictors in the toilets.

• To ensure that dust, noise and odour do not cause a nuisance to the community surrounding the place of business or site to which we are delivering.

• To ensure that no polluting matter enters surface waters or groundwater. We will obtain permission before discharging any contaminated water, and before commencing any works we will check the area for endangered species, protected plant species, trees subject to a Tree Preservation Order, and protected archaeology.

The Company Directors will ensure that environmental policies are adhered to and, if necessary, make the amendments needed to ensure that our environmental standards are of the highest quality.
